Christmas Special: 5 covers you should at to your Christmas playlist.

With exactly one week before Christmas so time to interrupt your regular programming for the first part of a Christmas special. Here are my five favorite Christmas covers of this year.

Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas- This Wild Life

With the original being a true Christmas classic it’s hard to give this one your own twist, but “This Wild Life” does manage it, especially in the vocal delivery and the bare bones instrumental, giving it a cozy feel, and making it perfect for the dark winter days around Christmas.

All I Want For Christmas – Against The Current

A song that has been elevated to meme status with its yearly return during the holidays, it’s no surprise that the song has been covered into oblivion, but my favorite version is still the “Against the Current” one, which is a classic in and of itself stemming from the bands early days. Despite that “ATC” give it a delightful pop rock twist, bursting with energy from the vocals to the guitar shredding, giving a nice change of pace when you’re sick of the original.

Merry Christmas Everybody – IDKHOW

IDKHOW’s normal music already has the feel of a different era, so a cover of a classic from the same era seems no more than logical and Dallon his voice fits perfectly, in terms of instrumentation the band stays faithful to the original, but it still has the distinctive “IDHOW” feel.

Santa Tell Me – First to Eleven

The original is already a pop classic, which isn’t surprising with it being a Ariana song, and because of this it has been covered by multiple artists, but “First to Eleven” truly gives it their own twist. The band turns it into a energetic rock song, which shows the band’s prowess with making covers their own.

Yule Shoot Your Eye Out- In Her Own Words

Last but not least a Christmas classic for every Scene kid, which isn’t covert as much as you would expect, but “In Her Own Words” has taken the leap, and it does pay off, with the band switching the acoustic’s up for an electric instrumentation, which give’s the song a whole new level of energy.
