5 Bands I think You Should Check Out!: November 2020

It’s the last Wednesday of the Month and that means its time to put the spotlight on new bands. Lets dive right in!

A Summer High

A Summer High

A Summer High is an American pop punk/pop rock duo, formed in 2016, the band consists of vocalist/bassist Mason Levi and vocalist/guitarist James Anthony.

The band has released one ep and a handful of singles thus far, with their most recent release being the single “See You Emily”

On the touring side of things, the band has been on the road with artists such as “Bronnie” “SayWeCanFly” and “7 Minutes In Heaven”

Also notably is how the band kicked off their carrier by shadowing “5 seconds of summer” their 2016 us tour and playing acoustic sets in the parking lot at show. Furthermore, they have been guests on Colleen/colliscool her youtube channel

What I like about their sound is how they seem to blend modern pop rock with a neon pop punk twist as well as modern synth pop elements, resulting in their own blend of pop rock. The band sounds like a combination of “5 Seconds of Summer”, “All Time Low” and Early “Waterparks

Songs I Recommend are “I Like the Way It Feels Bad”, “Sail” and “London”

Charades

Charades is a Dutch emo/alternative rock band founded in 2015. The band currently consists of vocalist/guitarist Gerben Kieviet, bassist Frank Mastenbroek and drummer Rick Kouwenberg.

The band has released two eps and a handful of singles so far with their latest release being the single “Crushed”

In the realm of shows the band has been sharing the stage with acts such as “Windup Space“, “Prey Drive” and Killed by Martians”

What I like about their sound is the dark and emotional vibe, reminding me of bands such as “Basement”, “Boston Manor” and “Fang Club”

Songs I Recommend are “Crushed”, “Takes” and “Colours”

Mighty Tortuga

Mighty Tortuga

Mighty Tortuga is an Emo/pop punk band from the United States, formed in 2018, the band currently consists of Vocalist TJ Redding, guitarist Jacob Berberich, guitarist/bassist Amar Lapastica and drummer Jameson Stock.

The band has released two eps and a couple of singles thus far, with their most recent release being their second ep “The Gloom”

In the area of touring the band has searched the stage with “Imaginary Friends”, “WSTR” and “Gvrden”

What I like about their sound is how they combine the modern pop punk and emo sounds with a 90’s influenced alt rock. Reminding me of “Real Friends” mixed “Blur” and the recent sound of “Neck Deep

Songs I recommend are “Transparency”, “Classic” and “Virtue”

Sister Shotgun

Sister Shotgun

Sister Shotgun is a British Metal band, founded 2012, the band currently consists of Vocalist Chloe Ozwell, guitarist Niall Wills, guitarist Benij Tatlock, bassist Tim Chambers and drummer Dave Harvey.

The band has released one ep and one album thus far, with their most recent release being their album “Fragments”

On the touring side of things the band has been on the road with artist such as “Novustory”, “Skarlett Riot” and “Chasing Dragons”

What I like about their sound are mostly the vocal styles, and the way the band combines symphonic elements with grunting/heavy breaks. Their overall sound reminds me of some of my favorite metal bands such as “Amaranthe” and “Nightwish”

Song I Recommend are “Sacred Heart” , “Miss Fortune” and “From the Ashes”

Love You Later

Love You Later

Love You Later is the dream/indie pop solo project of Lexi Aviles. After releasing her first single in 2017, the American singer has been working hard on releasing new music and building her fame.

Since 2017 she has released two ep and a handful of singles, with her most recent release being the single “PCH Rollercoaster”

She also has been busy touring and been on the road with artists such as “Bayside”, “The Millennial Club” and “Jerry Paper”

What I like about her sound is the raspy edge she has on her voice, combined with the relaxing but still upbeat nature of her sound. Lastly there is the 80s feels she gives to her music with the use of synths and effects. She reminds me of a combination of “Pvris” and “The Band Camino

Songs I Recommend are “Said That you’d Be There”, “PHC Rollercoaster” and “Blindfolded”
