5 Bands I Think You Should Check Out!:October 2020

It’s the last Wednesday of October and that means five new bands I will put the spotlight on, let’s dive in to this month’s 5 bands I think you should check out!

Ocean Grove

Ocean Grove is an Australian alternative rock/nu-metal band. Formed in 2010, the band currently consists of vocalist Dale Tanner, guitarist Matt Henley, bassist Twiggy Hunter and drummer Sam Bassal.

The band has released four albums thus far, with their most recent album “Flip Phone Fantasy” being released this year.

On the touring side of things, the band has shared the stage with acts such as “The Amity Affliction”, “Hands Like Houses” and “August Burns Red”

What I like about this sound is how they blend modern metal influences with a 2000 nu-metal sound reminding me of a mix “Linkin Park” and “Dayseeker”

Songs I recommend are “Neo”, “Thunderdome” and “B.L.U.D”        

Neverlyn

Neverlyn

Neverlyn is a California based pop punk band. Founded in 2013 the band currently consists of vocalist Anna Neitzel, guitarist/vocalist Nisha Rangel, guitarist Merik Perez, bassist Samanta zeager and drummer Dillon Estrada.

The band has released two albums thus far. Their latest release “Beauty Sleep” being put out this year.

The band has been on the road with such acts as “The Ataris”, “Noise Brigade” and “Belmont”   

Other achievements include a feature from “Man Overboards” Zac Eisenstein on their song “Far from Perfect”

What I like about this sound is the energy that from their songs, this band embodies everything that made me get into pop punk in the first place.

Songs I recommend are “Far from Perfect”, “Right,Wright” and “Reckless Abandonment”

Halflives

Halflives

Halflives is a French pop punk/alternative rock band. Established in 2016 the band currently consists of vocalist Linda Battilani, bassist Oscar Scantamburlo and drummer Fede Bernardi.

Currently the band has released two eps and one album and a handful of singles. Most recently the band released a single called “Fugitive”

The band has been touring with artists such as “Icon for Hire”, “Against the Current” and “Pvris

Other achievements include a feature from “Sleeping with Sirens” Kellin Quinn on their song “Time Bomb”

What I like about their sound is the pop sensibility, their songs just get stuck in your head. The band feels like a mix of “Pvris” and “Against the Current”

Song I recommend are “Rockstar Everyday”, “Fugitive” and “Time Bomb”    

Royals

Royals is a UK based pop punk band, formed in 2019 the band is the youngest on the list. Currently the band consists of guitarist Luke Smithson, guitarist Will Sherlock, bassist Lewis Smyth and drummer Alex Baker.

Currently the band has one ep and a handful of singles behind their name, with their song “Fair-weather friend” being the latest release.

In the realm of touring the band has played shows with acts such as “Melwood”, “Slackrr” and “Basement League”

What I like about their sound is the pure pop punk energy it has, on par with bands as “Neck Deep” and “As it Is

Songs I recommend are “Fair-Weather Friend”, “Over It” and “Out of Reach”

All Wrong

All Wrong is an emo/post-hardcore quartet from Barcelona. Formed in 2017 the band currently consists of vocalist Alfred Blanch, guitarist Charly Rodriguez, guitarist Alborg Farre and bassist Kevin Diaz.

Currently the band has two eps and a handful of singles behind their name, with their second ep “I Hope It Gets Better” being their latest release.

On the side of touring the band has played with acts such as “Splinter sticks”, “Alfenic” and “We Are Done”

What I like about their sound is the emotional energy, they are like a mix of “Citizen” and “Mayday Parade” but with a louder edge.

Songs I recommend are “Poison”, “Digging Flowers” and “Indelible”
